Miss Sophie's house with Miss Sophie and Cyndi on the porch. At one time, this house (and most others in the neighborhood) was on concrete stilts. Over time, and with no flooding taking place, the spaces beneath the houses were converted to apartments or additional living space. Our project was in the downstairs apartment, which Miss Sophie plans to occupy due to her advanced age (85) and her difficulty in negotiating the stairs. Note the FEMA mark on the shutters.
